Estudos têm apontado que a violência pode ultrapassar gerações, havendo possibilidade de que o adulto reproduza com crianças de sua família as experiências de violência vividas em sua infância. Este estudo explorou a questão das reações maternas e da multigeracionalidade da violência em mães de meninas abusadas sexualmente. Foram entrevistadas dez participantes, de 24 a 40 anos, que estavam sendo acolhidas em serviços especializados, em um hospital público de Porto Alegre, RS, Brasil. Foram realizadas entrevistas enfocando características da família de origem, a história materna de violência familiar e a situação da revelação de abuso sexual de suas filhas. Foi observado que quatro das mães participantes também tinham sofrido abuso sexual em sua infância. A análise dos casos indicou que a infância destas mães foi marcada pela presença de alcoolismo na família, distanciamento emocional de suas mães e punição física por parte dos pais. Foi verificada a presença da multigeracionalidade da violência, trazendo dificuldades para estas participantes lidarem com a situação atual de suas filhas. Sugere-se a realização de pesquisas e projetos de intervenção junto a essa população, direcionados à prevenção ou rompimento do ciclo de violência. Palabras clave Abuso sexual infantil Multigeracionalidad ABSTRACT WHEN VIOLENCE OVERTAKES GENERATIONS: A STUDY ON MOTHERS OF GIRLS VICTIMS OF SEXUAL ABUSE Studies have shown that violence can overcome generations, there is possibility of an adult to reproduce the experiences of violence he/she had gone through in their own infancy with the children of his/her family. This study explored the issue of multigenerationality from the perspective of mothers of children victims of sexual abuse. Ten participants were between 24 and 40 years old (m=32.8; SD=5.59), attending specialized services for situations of violence, in a public hospital of Porto Alegre, Brazil, were interviewed. The interviews focused on the characteristics of the original family, the mother’s history of familial violence and the disclosure of sexual abuse of her children. It was observed that four of the participating mothers had also suffered sexual abuse in their childhood. The analysis of the cases indicated that the infancy of these mothers had been marked by the presence of alcoholism in the family, emotional distance from their mothers and physical punishment on the part of their parents. The presence of multigenerationality of violence was verified, making it difficult for these participants to deal with the current situation of their children. As a suggestion, research and intervention projects should be undertaken with this population, targeting prevention or disrupting the cycle of violence.
