El presente trabajo aborda la autoestima materna y su relación con el género del bebé, en el marco del proyecto de investigación “Estudio de la Expresividad emocional madre bebé durante el primer año de vida”. UBACyT (P 803) dirigido por la Prof. Clara Schejtman. En la mujer, la autoestima ligada al maternaje puede ser considerada como un aspecto específico y diferenciado el cual es estudiado por diversos autores y operacionalizado a los efectos de la investigación. De acuerdo a los resultados arrojados por el “Inventario Materno Autoadministrado” (MSRI), el género del bebé no influye en la autoestima general de la madre, pero si en sus ideas y sentimientos acerca de su “Habilidad general como madre” (subescala II), es decir, su competencia para asumir y llevar a cabo satisfactoriamente su rol. Las madres de las niñas registran un nivel menor de autoestima que las madres de los varones. Palabras Clave Autoestima Materna Género Investigación Abstract STUDY OF THE RELATION BETWEEN MATERNAL SELF ESTEEM AND INFANT´S GENDER This work is about over maternal self-esteem and its relation with the baby gender, in the frame of the research project “Study of emotional expressivity in mother-infant dyads during the first year of life”, UBACyT (P 803). In women, the self-esteem linked with motherhood, may be considered as a specific and differentiated aspect, which is studied by different authors and operationallized in order to be researched. According to results shown by the “Maternal Self-administrated inventory” (MSRI), baby’s gender has no influence over mothers general selfesteem, but over her ideas and feelings about her general ability as a mother (subscale II). In other words, her competences to assume and perform her role satisfactorily. Girls’ mothers show a lower level of self-esteem than boys´ mothers. Key words Maternal Self-Esteem Gender Research
