Estudos realizados sobre as relações família-escola apontam para a diversidade de concepções a respeito do relacionamento familiar dos alunos, sendo frequente a referência às famílias de baixa renda como "desestruturadas". A persistência destas falas no cotidiano escolar nos levou a pensar sobre o processo de articulação entre o que é vivido/conhecido e o "imaginado" na relação (re)produzida por ambas as instituições (família e escola). Configurou-se, então, o interesse de tomar o imaginário/imaginação como nosso objeto de estudo, concebendo-o como uma dimensão constitutiva do humano e das práticas sociais. Os modos de dizer e viver a instituição família entra como via possibilitadora de investigação do imaginário/imaginação, e uma escola pública situada na cidade de São Paulo - Brasil, como locus de investigação. Através da apresentação das análises preliminares de momentos em que um grupo de seis adolescentes decide construir uma peça de teatro que tematiza o que vivem/pensam ser " O mundo dos jovens", pretendemos discutir o processo de constituição do imaginário/ imaginação, problematizando as imagens e conceitos (re) produzidos nos modos de pensar e falar destes alunos sobre a família.As análises do material empírico encontram-se referenciadas na perspectiva Histórico-cultural do desenvolvimento humano e mais particularmente, nas contribuições de Vygotsky e Castoriadis. Palabras clave Imaginario/imaginacão Família Escola Historico-cultural ABSTRACT THE FAMILY INSTITUTION: A STUDY ABOUT THE HISTORICAL-CULTURAL CONSTITUTION OF THE IMAGINARY/IMAGINATION Many studies that focus on the relationships between family and school institutions point to the diversity of conceptions about ways of family organization, being quite common the reference to "unstructured families". Such current comments within the school environment lead us to raise the issue of the possible articulations between what is lived/known and imagined in the relationship (re)produced between the family and the school. To make the study possible, we configures the imaginary/imagination as our object of study understanding it as one constitutive dimension of man and social practices. The ways of talking and thinking about the family becomes the way to investigate the imaginary/imagination and a public school situated in a periphery of São Paulo - Brasil, our locus of investigation. Trough the presentation of the preliminary analysis of the moments that a group of six adolescents create a theater play about what they think/feel in relation to the "World of Young People", we intend to discuss the process of constitution of the imaginary/imagination, bringing to the fore images and concepts (re)produced in the forms of thinking and talking about the family.
