Se intentará dilucidar algunos aspectos referentes al surgimiento del saber psiquiátrico y las relaciones de poder, conjuntamente con las prácticas discursivos-sociales que hicieron posible la génesis del discurso psiquiátrico hacia finales del siglo XVIII. Para ello se recurrirá al pensamiento de Michel Foucault (1926-1984), cuyas investigaciones se refieren a los aspectos no manifiestos de las sociedades, que en realidad emergen como constituyentes de las condiciones de posibilidad de cada cultura en particular.
