En el presente texto se examina la falta de investigación rigurosa en el ámbito del Institucionalismo y la Psicología en general acerca de la inteligencia artificial (IA). Se resalta a su vez la necesidad de abordar sus usos y la evolución de sus ecosistemas desde una perspectiva institucionalista. Para esto, se identifica la dificultad inherente del abordaje de las mutaciones sociales en cuestión desde las herramientas clásicas del institucionalismo y se propone el análisis de las infraestructuras materiales y sus procesos históricos como primer modo de aproximación. Para ello, se tomará el producto de la empresa OpenAI que ha generado múltiples controversias en el último año, el chatGPT como una suerte de caso institucional. El mismo podrá ser entendido como un analizador del capitalismo contemporáneo, en su fase de financiarización y producción de objetos inmateriales. Finalmente, se incluye el presente caso en el marco de discusiones históricas que oscilan entre una mirada que entiende al momento actual como una fase histórica inédita, de mutaciones antropológicas sin precedentes, y una perspectiva que analiza el presente como una exacerbación de condiciones preexistentes en el modo de producción capitalista.
