El trabajo se propone analizar el tratamiento particular de la novela familiar en el cuento El Sur, de Jorge Luis Borges. El relato define a su personaje como producto de una discordia de linajes y despliega las vicisitudes a través de las cuales se producirá un cuestionamiento a su posición en relación a esa discordia. El viaje al Sur, más allá de su estatuto real o ficcional, comporta una conmoción en las identificaciones que sostienen al personaje. La narración no oficia de cicatriz sino que por el contrario, conduce a la desgarradura de la identidad. El tratamiento del tiempo y del espacio es acorde al replanteo del lugar del Yo en el relato. Resumen en Inglés The objective of this work is to analize the singular treatment of family romance in J. L. Borges’s short story “El Sur” (“The South”). The tale defines the main character as a product of lineages’s discord, and displays the vicissitudes that will give rise to a questioning of the character's position as regards this discord. The journey towards the South, regardless of its real or fictional condition, implies a shock on the identifications that support the character. The story doesn't heal, but tears the character's identity apart. The treatment of time and space agrees with the restatement of the Ego’s place in the story.
