Desde el primer acto fallido llevado a la pantalla grande en el film Geheimnisse einer Seele (Secrets of a Soul) por Georg Wilhem Pabst en 1926, el cine no ha dejado de ocuparse de cuestiones ético-psicológicas. Por otra parte, en los últimos años han aparecido distintas series populares de televisión que incluyen de manera explícita situaciones en las que se presentan cuestiones éticas entre pacientes y psicoterapeutas. Capítulos memorables de CSI, The Sopranos, In Treatment, House MD, Grey´s Anatomy, entre otras, han acercado el tema a amplios sectores del público. El presente trabajo se propone presentar una metodología de lectura de estos materiales, a través de la identificación de algunas de las cuestiones contenidas en un episodio de Los Soprano. A partir de una reconstrucción de la trama, se van presentando los distintos escenarios teóricos para abordarlos tanto desde la responsabilidad deontológica como desde su dimensión clínica. Se discuten cuestiones relativas a Conflicto personales y Supervisión, Responsabilidad profesional y subjetiva, Neutralidad. El objetivo es tanto presentar la complejidad de las categorías como analizar la importancia que estas tienen en el gran público a la hora de ponderar la práctica psicoterapéutica. Palabras clave Conflictos Personales Supervisión Televisión ABSTRACT ANALYZING PSYCHOTHERAPEUTIC PRACTICE THROUGH THE USE OF MASS MEDIA: AN EXPLORATION OF ETHICAL DILEMMAS PRESENTED IN “THE SOPRANOS” From the first on-screen Freudian slip, which appeared in Georg Wilhelm Past’s film, Secrets of a Soul, movies have become an excellent medium for the exploration of ethical-psychological issues. Over the last few years, this phenomenon has exceeded the limits of the movie industry and has begun to appear in popular television series in which the subject of the ethical dilemmas between a therapist and their patient has been dealt with explicitly. Scintillating episodes from TV series such as The Sopranos have brought these matters into the homes of a larger audience. This paper proposes a methodological approach to these materials, through the identification of some of the ethical dilemmas that appear in one episode of The Sopranos. This work presents the theoretical instruments that can be used to approach these issues, both from the perspective of a deontological responsibility as well as in its clinical dimension. Issues pertaining to the areas of Personal Conflict, Supervision, Professional and Subjective responsibility as well as Neutrality are analyzed throughout this work. The objective of this paper is to expose the complexity of these categories as well as to analyze the importance they hold for a wider public when pondering on psychotherapeutic practice.
