Este trabajo partió de la hipótesis de que la capacidad de empatía y la flexibilidad yoica afectan de diverso modo a la capacidad de perdonar. Para estudiar estas variables se eligieron sujetos que están atravesando la etapa final de la adolescencia, por considerar que es un momento crucial en la inserción social de las personas. La muestra comprendió a 132 sujetos de ambos sexos, de 15 a 18 años. Se utilizaron como instrumentos el Inventario de Cociente Emocional (Eq-i) de Reuven Bar- On y la Escala Capacidad de Perdonar (CAPER) de M. M. Casullo y M. Fernández Liporace. Se pudo observar que la Empatía tiene un efecto significativo sobre las dimensiones Resignificación de errores y experiencias negativas, Actitudes hacia el ofensor, Creencias que determinan el perdonar y Aceptación de situaciones o hechos negativos. A mayor empatía, mayor promedio en estas subescalas de la capacidad de perdonar. No se encontró valor predictivo de la empatía sobre las dimensiones Control de situaciones, sentimientos o pensamientos negativos ni para Sentimientos hacia el sí mismo. En cuanto a la Flexibilidad yoica no se observaron efectos significativos sobre ninguna de las dimensiones del CAPER. Palabras clave Empatía Flexibilidad Perdón Adolescencia ABSTRACT EMPATHY, EGO FLEXIBILITY AND THE CAPACITY TO FORGIVE This paper sprang upon the hypothesis that the empathy capacity and ego flexibility affect in different ways the ability to forgive. In order to study these variables we have chosen participants who are in the last stage of adolescence, due to considering that it is a crucial moment in people´s social insertion. The sample comprised 132 participants from both sexes, from 15 to 18 years old. We used the Emotional Quotient Inventory (Eqi) by Reuven BarOn and the Forgiveness Ability Scale (CAPER) by M. M. Casullo and M. Fernández Liporace. It was observed that empathy has a significant effect on “Negative experiences and human error remeaning”, “Attitudes towards offenders”, “Beliefs that determine forgiveness” and “Negative facts or situations acceptance”. The greater empathy, the higher average in these forgiveness ability subscales. We didn´t find predictive value of empathy on the dimensions: “Negative thoughts, feelings and situations control” and “Feelings towards oneself”. As regards Ego flexibility we didn´t observe sifnificant effects on neither of the CAPER dimensions. Key words Empathy Flexibility Forgiveness Adolescence
