RESUMEN En los últimos 10 años las tasas de mortalidad materno infantil en Tucumán, se han mantenido en todo el período por encima del promedio nacional. Esta situación puede ser atribuida en parte a problemas derivados de la crisis social y económica. Las tasas de mortalidad materna, más altas que las nacionales, muestran que la mitad corresponden al aborto y las complicaciones del embarazo, parto y puerperio. Desde el Proyecto de investigación “Salud Mental, Maternidad e Infancia”(CIUNT), se decidió indagar durante el período 2002 y 2003 la realidad de las mujeres tucumanas en relación con los derechos reproductivos. El propósito de este trabajo es difundir resultados parciales de la investigación, considerando cómo incide la oportuna y adecuada información sobre la sexualidad y la toma decisiones acerca del control de la natalidad. Asimismo las relaciones entre nivel de ingresos y elección del método anticonceptivo e información y educación de la madre. Se tomó como muestra escuelas públicas seleccionadas al azar de San Miguel de Tucumán. Se consideraron dentro de estas escuelas, los alumnos de 3º grado a los que se les administró la familia kinética y a sus padres una encuesta, construida a tal efecto. Resumen en Inglés "The effects of Poverty in reproductive Health” In the last ten years the infant/mother death rate in Tucuman has kept over the national media during the whole period. This situation could be due –in part- to problems associated with the socio-economic crisis. The mother mortality rates –higher than the national ones- shows that half of them correspond to abortions and to complications during pregnancy, birth and puerperium. From the Research Project “Mental Health, motherhood and Infancy” (CIUNT), it was decided to investigate the reality of Tucuman women in connection to their reproductive rights during the period 2002 – 2003. The purpose of this research is to make public the partial results found, taking into account the way, the correct and accurate information regarding sexuality, influences the decisions taken regarding birth control. At the same time we investigated the connections between income levels and the choosing the contraceptive method linked to the information and education of the mother. Random samples were taken from public schools in San Miguel de Tucuman. We considered within these schools, pupils from 3rd.grade to whom the kinetic family was administered.
