Estudios anteriores indican que una alta expectativa paternalista de Estado condiciona la idea que una sociedad tiene de la noción de Democracia, reduciéndola al voto. El objetivo del presente trabajo es conocer cómo los estudiantes universitarios definen a la democracia y al Estado, y cómo evalúan el actual funcionamiento de los mismos. Con este propósito, se ha indagado 1070 voluntarios de universidades públicas y privadas de la Ciudad de Buenos Aires y áreas circundantes. Para los encuestados, el Estado debe garantizar el acceso a la educación (90,4%) y la salud (86,6%); a la vez debe garantizar la seguridad de las personas (52,5%) y la justicia (80,6%). La democracia esta relacionada con “igualdad de derechos y oportunidades” (20,2%), “soberanía popular” (18,9%) y “acceso al voto con libertad de elegir” (12,5%). El funcionamiento del Estado Argentino actual sería entre bueno y muy bueno mientras que el funcionamiento actual de la democracia en nuestro país no sería tan bueno. Palabras Clave democracia estado estudiantes universidad Abstract PATERNALISTIC EXPECTATION OF STATEAND ITS EFFECT ON DEMOCRACY IN UNIVERSITY STUDENTS Previous studies indicate that a high paternalistic expectation of State conditions the idea that a society has on the notion of Democracy, reducing it to vote. The objective of the present work is to know how university students define democracy and the State, and how they evaluate the current operation of them. With this purpose, it has been investigated 1070 volunteers of public and private universities of the City of Buenos Aires and surrounding areas.
