Este artículo propone un recorrido sobre el concepto de síntoma, no sólo a lo largo de un análisis sino también los cambios que fue recibiendo este concepto tanto en la teoría de Freud como en la de Lacan. Veremos también cómo estos cambios conceptuales reflejaron simultáneamente cambios en la clínica de ambos psicoanalistas, siendo la clínica principalmente la que marcó el tope a estas concepciones teóricas. En el caso de Freud, presentaremos cómo pasa del síntoma como ciframiento de una verdad reprimida, que se resolvería con la interpretación del analista (ubicado así como intérprete de este mensaje desfigurado), al síntoma como sustituto de una satisfacción sexual prohibida, razón por la cual el sujeto se aferra fuertemente a su síntoma sin poder deshacerse de él. Jacques Lacan, por su parte, partirá del síntoma como metáfora, al síntoma como letra de goce y, finalmente, llegará a una de sus últimas definiciones del síntoma como acontecimiento de cuerpo. Veremos cómo pasará de la predominancia del registro simbólico a una orientación hacia lo real, donde se tratará de saber leer la letra del síntoma y que el sujeto pueda “arreglárselas” con lo que queda de él [savoir y faire avec]. Palabras clave Síntoma, Sinthome, Letra, Lectura, Goce Abstract READING THE LETTER This article proposes to go through the concept of symptom, not only along an analysis but also along the changes that this concept went through both in Freud’s and Lacan’s theory. We will also see how these conceptual changes were reflected in both psychoanalysts’ clinic, and thus being the clinical practice what has marked the limit to these theoretical concepts. In Freud’s case, we will introduce how he shifts from the symptom as a repressed truth ciphering, which should be worked out by the analyst’s interpretation (positioned as the disfigured messege interpreter), to the symptom as a substitute for a prohibited sexual satisfaction, which makes the subjetc cling tightly to his symptom becoming unable to get rid of it. Meanwhile, Jacques Lacan will take it from the symptom as a metaphor, the symptom as letter of enjoyment and, finally, one of his latest definitions of symptoms as a body event. We’ll see how he will pass from the predominance of the symbolic register to an orientation towards the real, where we will try to read the letter of the symptom and lead the subject to “sort it out” with what remains of it [savoir y faire avec].
