Resumen
Universities in the provinces of Argentina play a fundamental role in the coordination, support, and formation of baselines for the management of local governments. Cordoba province has experienced one of the greatest changes in land use, increasing the risks of flooding and loss of soil quality; also, conflicts arise in small towns due to the application of agrochemicals. Within this framework, a research and extension group of the National University of Villa Maria (UNVM) decided to organize participative workshops with local stakeholders to plan sustainable cities within the framework of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Three participative workshops were held in 2019 in conjunction with 37 institutions and the attendance of more than 50 people from different age groups. Relevant aspects were obtained for local management that the UNVM systematized and worked together with local managers to build sustainable policies, such as the preservation of natural spaces and the construction of a space for dialogue on an equity basis. Improvements in the life quality of local communities were achieved and students from the Bachelor´s Degree in Environment and Renewable Energies and Local-Regional Development that participated in the process had transforming experiences that improved their professional training. The workshops generated institutional ties, which have continued since then, and favored the development of new activities. During the COVID-19 pandemic, surveys were carried out using online forms to find out about access to food, labor, and educational conditions, which are aspects that are highly relevant for the Environmental Management of the Territory. The results of these surveys will complement the work done in the workshops. This collaborative work showed that the university, through training and construction in the territories, contributes to the SDGs at different scales, demonstrating the importance and determining its role in the provinces.
