El objetivo de este trabajo es discutir si el vocablo Aysén y/o Aisén, corresponde a concepciones modernas del castellano, si existe alguna forma local distinta de escritura, así como si tiene algún significado en su lengua de procedencia. La expresión da nombre a una región en Chile, así como a otras divisiones político administrativas y accidentes geográficos y, aunque existe una versión oficial respecto a su grafía, los habitantes locales y la literatura lo escriben indistintamente. Se revisan los primeros antecedentes históricos disponibles para su grafía y se señala finalmente que ambas formas han sido impuestas por organismos oficiales, no existiendo una propia o autóctona de la zona aludida. También que, de acuerdo a la normativa vigente de la RAE (Real Academia de la Lengua Española), al ser una castellanización de un nombre indígena chono-caucahue, ambos modos popularizados resultan en formas correctamente utilizadas. The aim of this paper is to discuss whether the version of the word Aysén and/or Aisén, refers to a modern notion of the Spanish, and, moreover, if there is a local way to write it and the meaning it could have. Overall, the word refers to a Chilean region as well as other geopolitical divisions and landforms. Although there is an official version regarding this word, it has been written in a different way by the literature, as well as by its inhabitants. Under those circumstances, the document informs on the earliest antecedents about how it has been presented. Finally, it is concluded that all the ways of writing the word Aysen have been imposed by official agencies and, bearing this in mind, a local term is inexistent. Due to the reason that it is a hispanisation of an indigenous name (from the chono-caucahue ethnic group), and accord to the RAE (Royal Academy of the Spanish Language), both ways are accepted and are corrects.
