Aretecracy is presented as an alternative to the current democratic models, facing the contemporary problems of populism and plutocracy. The purpose of this study is to analyze the potential of Aretecracy as a governance paradigm based on virtue and ethics, proposing a framework to respond to the ethical and structural crises facing modern democracies. Methodologically, a theoretical-analytical approach is adopted, critically reviewing existing literature on democratic theory and applying these concepts to the design of an ethical pre-qualification system for political leaders. The results demonstrate that Aretecracy can offer a viable governance model by integrating ethical criteria into the leader selection process, ensuring that those who hold public office are both morally competent and technically qualified. Furthermore, the study explores how Aretecracy could be implemented in various sociopolitical contexts, fostering a political culture based on excellence and integrity. The conclusions emphasize the need to reform current democratic systems by incorporating mechanisms of ethical pre-qualification to strengthen the legitimacy and efficiency of governments, ensuring that political decisions align with the collective well-being and human rights.
