Palabras clave Aprendizajes Contextos Prácticas Medios ABSTRACT TO MEDIATE THE MEDIA The appearance of massive means of communication confronted schools with the nature of its specific mission: the transmission of knowledge. Mass media and new technologies have imposed new conditions on the transmission of culture. This change in the scenery and, above all, in the conditions of knowledge production affects scholarship decisively. Actually, we are dealing with a radical change regarding the cultural matrix in which the school was founded, where writing was the privileged tool of knowledge transmission. Against this background, we will focus on the effective practices related to media that teachers and students carry out (both inside and outside schools), considering that through these activities (and meanings involved in them) contemporary symbolic performances are developed. This report seeks to examine some ideas surrounding this problem. Such reflections come out of the studies that we are now developing at the Faculted of Psychology at the University of Buenos Aires. This study attempts to shed some light on the relations between the educational background of school and family, interpolating them in the contemporary conditions of everyday life, in which the television and other media-based devices of information, mediate exchanges, create culture, and at the same time, produce subjectivities radically different from those that modern institutions thought existed.
